Frequently Asked Questions

Sociology is a social science discipline that deals with social issues, events, institutions, structures and their changes, as well as with individuals and their actions from a social, historical, economic, political and philosophical perspective.

Both sociology and psychology are areas of the social sciences and are in an interdisciplinary relationship to each other. However, the research objects and methods of the two disciplines often differ. Sociology develops explanations for social relationships and examines various areas of social life such as consumption, health, working life, leisure, the relationship between humans and other living beings, populations, migration and social inequalities, while psychology examines the feelings, thoughts and behavior of people and  other living beings. Sociologists can study topics such as "emotions" which, at first glance, appear to be relevant only to psychology. In contrast to psychologists, sociologists focus their research on the social nature of these topics in such studies. For example, you can study how different emotions acquire different meanings in different historical and geographical contexts, and how specific emotions are commercialized through specific social processes.

The Turkish-German University Sociology Undergraduate Program curriculum is designed in such a way that at least 30% of the courses are in German. 54.5% of the departmental compulsory courses are in German. There are also elective courses in Turkish, German and English. German sociology has a very important place in the discipline if you look at the founding thinkers of sociology. That students will be able to read and understand the founding texts in their original language will give them an important advantage in the field. The courses on the social, historical and economic relations between Germany and Turkey also make the program  unique. In addition, the mandatory internship helps students to make decisions about their future professional life and areas of specialization. Finally, the students write a bachelor thesis, which enables them to apply the knowledge and qualifications they have acquired during their studies.

The duration of the bachelor's degree is four years (eight semesters) and the maximum duration is seven years (fourteen semesters). The preparatory class is not included in this period.

In order to complete sociology at the TDU, our students must attend and successfully accomplish the "Bachelor’s Project" course in the 8th semester; therefore, the final project is mandatory for our students according to the current curriculum.
